Nomad opened its doors in Pt Chev in late 2014, promoting the social joys of food, wine, music and community, with the aim of bringing people from different backgrounds together.
All of us possess nomadic tendencies, we are travellers, each with our own lessons and experiences to share with one another.
The offering is also a product of such sharing of techniques and skills, while influenced by flavours of the Mediterranean; the product is an international fusion of passion and craft. Nomad is about more than just food, wine, cocktails or hospitality, it is about a shared experience.

The menu is made up of seven items, all costing $17. A bit steep for croque monsieur (add $2 if you want an egg to make it a croque madame), but fairly standard for other brunch fare such as bacon and eggs or the classic eggs bene, Nomad style. Admittedly, the meals were massive when they arrived, so perhaps it's bang for buck.
The look we liked - large and lofty. The exposed brick whitewashed wall is a hip feature and the brown leather bench running the length looked cosy. There was also a cute nook by the fireplace that we imagined would suit wine time later in the day. However, for most of the hour we brunched this Saturday morning my partner and I were the only patrons, making it feel rather empty and a little sad.

There was a moment, after our dinner order was out of the way and we sat back to enjoy the last rays of sun before it slunk behind the Waitakeres, when we had to remind ourselves we were still in Auckland.
Not just in Auckland, but the drive-through-it-on-the-way-to-somewhere-else suburb of Pt Chevalier.
It was a warm Friday night and we were parked up at a table by the open doors of Nomad. The latest addition to the area is located in the space that used to house local favourite Ragu, and before that, The Point.
It faces the library, so you're not constantly reminded just how busy the intersection at the Pt Chev shops can get; instead it's quite relaxing, but with a definite urban vibe.
