Located on the corner of Shortland and O’Connell Streets in central Auckland, O’Connell St Bistro is an intimate dining room of twelve tables, created in the theme of a contemporary European back street bistro, with a cosy and well-stocked bar.
The Bistro has a private room, the Corner Room, adjacent to the Bistro, accommodating up to 20 people on one table and 26 people on two tables. We can also accommodate groups of up to 42 people in the main restaurant, for that special occasion.
Metro Top 50 Restaurants 2017: O'Connell Street Bistro
"After recovering from a kitchen fire that forced it to close last year, O’Connell Street is back in business and back in the Top 50 with a newer, softer space and an experienced team to run it. Three abstract, mixed-media artworks by Bill Snider inform the room’s new colour scheme, which is carried through to the details — the copper finish of table lamps, the binding of menus, the blue silk of waiters’ waistcoats. Few restaurants in the city have lasted the 20 years O’Connell Street owner Chris Upton has had to perfect these things." - Metro Top 50 Restaurants 2017
Restaurant review: O'Connell Street Bistro, Auckland CBD
"Vegetarians and the faint of heart should avert their eyes: Bambi was bloody delicious. It is probably poor taste to note that the standout dish at the recently reopened O'Connell Street Bistro involved smoke. But, nine months after the kitchen fire that partially destroyed the iconic eatery, I utterly recommend the venison." - Kim Knight for New Zealand Herald 8 October 2016
